Packing bedrooms before moving

When moving, it is always important to follow a certain plan – it helps to be less nervous, not to forget any of the things, and to speed up the process of loading and unpacking. Let’s pretend you’ve already set a move date, called in professional movers paramountmoving.ca, completed your utility contracts here, and now you’re left with packing things. Where shall you start?

Bedrooms should be collected for the move in the first place. Leave only those items of clothing and necessary things that you will definitely need until the day of the move – for example, a bed. Everything else can be packed in boxes and containers. In general, you can follow this order of collecting things:

  • Pack all the things that were stored in closets, chests of drawers and on shelves. Use boxes, bags, or bags to pack clothes, linens, and other small items.
  • If you have rugs or carpets, roll them up and pack them.
  • Pack all boxes and cases in a large furniture shipping box or container.
  • Detach any wall mounts or accessories.
  • Pack all small items such as table lamps, wall clocks, photo frames in separate boxes. If there are paintings, posters, or other decorations on the walls, remove them and pack them up.
  • Be sure to label furniture boxes and containers with a “fragile” or “caution” label if they contain fragile items.
  • If it’s a children’s bedroom, it’s a good idea to pack any toys or children’s books in boxes or bags.

It is worth leaving the furniture on the last day, if you are going to transport it unassembled. Proceed as follows:

  • Disassemble the baby bed and lay it on its side. If this is a loft bed, disconnect it from the wall and dismantle the ladder.
  • Pack the mattress and pillows in special cases for transportation. If there are no covers, then use a thick film.
  • Pack bedding such as pillows, duvets and sheets in individual boxes or bags
  • Dismantle an adult’s bed. Remove the mattress, disassemble the frame and put all the parts (screws, bolts, nuts, etc.) in bags or boxes so that they are not lost.
  • Dismantle the bedside tables. Remove drawers, if any, and place all parts in bags or boxes.
  • Clear out cabinets and chests of drawers. Remove drawers and put all parts in bags or boxes.
  • Place all bed, night table, cabinet, and dresser pieces in one or more boxes and label them with the contents.
  • If you have furniture assembly instructions, place them along with the furniture pieces to make it easier for you to put everything back together in the new location.
  • When transporting furniture, use packing materials such as film or bubble wrap to protect the furniture from damage during transit.

Remember that before you move in, be sure to take photos or videos of the children’s bedroom and document all damage and defects. This will help protect you in case of any problems while transporting furniture.
