How to use a GOTV App before Elections?

So, you’ve spent the past few months spreading your campaign message. You’ve handed out fliers, knocked on doors and called every number you could find, all in the hopes that on election day, your name will be chosen ahead of your competition. But how do you convince people to commit to that very final step, and not just listen to your words, but actually act upon them and take to the polls? The final days before the election involve a different kind of canvassing than the kind you have engaged in before; this kind of final canvassing is called ‘Get Out The Vote’ (GOTV) campaigning, and centers around increasing voter turnout ahead of D-Day.

As these final few days of GOTV campaigning are your last opportunity to convince your community to do their part and get out to vote, you must be as efficient as possible and use your time wisely. One of the most effective ways of ensuring that these crucial final days are successful is to invest in a GOTV App. In this article, we’ll be outlining exactly how GOTV apps can be used to help your campaign right before election day, so keep reading to find out more…

What is a GOTV App?

A GOTV App is a singular app through which all your canvassing activities can be managed. Most GOTV Apps will include features that allow you to sync all your voter and campaign data, organize your volunteer teams and mobilize your voters, donors, and supporters. Access to the app can be granted to all volunteers and campaign-leaders, thereby providing a centralized system for your teams to communicate and collate their information. In this way, these apps operate as a one-stop-shop for your team to use while attempting to convince those last few members of your community to vote on D-Day.

Ways in which GOTV apps can be used before an election:

Digital Organizing: GOTV apps provide you with a digital HQ that you can access from your own phone at any time. In this way, the app can be used to organize all your data in a simplistic yet effective manner, making it particularly easy for you to make real-time data assessments as you make choices regarding your GOTV needs and door-knocking efforts. Make sure to use your GOTV app to manage your actions on your final days of canvassing when making these key decisions!

Acts as a Guide for Volunteers: In the final days before the election, volunteers need to be at their very best in terms of door-to-door canvassing. GOTV Apps ensure this by providing a singular, easy to use outlet for volunteers to input all their collected data, map their canvassing trails and even keep their scripts so they’re ready to discuss your campaign with any potential voters they meet. In this sense, your supporters can be at their very best at getting out the vote while in the field canvassing with the help of a GOTV App.

Online Canvassing Tools: Door-to-door canvassing is definitely effective; getting volunteers out in the field and talking to potential voters and supporters is one of the best ways to get out the vote. Unfortunately, though, this method of campaigning is not always possible, so virtual canvassing will have to be utilized instead. This is where you can use your GOTV app- by offering phone-banking and SMS messaging services, your GOTV app can quickly contact people you cannot access in person. This is particularly helpful if time is an issue and final encouragement to vote for a particular candidate is needed.

Analyze Data: One of the best ways to use your GOTV App is to use the data analysis features it provides to determine who needs to hear your Get Out The Vote message the most. For example, you can use your app to analyze the results recorded from surveys taken and determine in real time where your high priority areas are for your volunteers to go door-knocking. This is essential in order to ensure your volunteers use their time wisely while in the field canvassing during those crucial final days.

Conclusion: So, before you begin your final days of campaigning and encouraging your community to get out and vote on election day, consider investing in a GOTV app to digitize your GOTV efforts. It could save you plenty of time, while bringing some much-needed efficiency in those final few days before voters hit the polls!
