UNITED NATIONS: Senior Pakistani police officer Faisal Shahkar has been appointed police adviser to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPO), a UN official said on Monday.
Shahkar will replace Portugal’s Luis Carrillo, who recently completed his mission.
Appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Shakar has more than 30 years of experience at home and abroad, spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a regular UN afternoon press conference.
He is currently the Inspector General of Pakistan. He has also held several senior positions in the Pakistani Police including Supplementary IS Punjab (2015-2018) and Regional Police Chief (2014-2015).
IGP Shahkar has over 9 years of experience at UN Headquarters, most recently as UN Standing Police Capacity Team Leader (2020-2021). He also served in the Police Branch of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Field Operations (2011-2013 and 2005-2008), United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) (2004-2005) and United Nations Mission in Liberia (2004). ). -2005) United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) (2000-2002).
Shahkar graduated from the University of London, UK with an LL.M. He also holds an MA in Political Science from Punjab University. He is fluent in English and Urdu.
